Dr Vidyasagar Potdar Head of Planning, Policy and Business Development Director, Anti-Spam Research Lab Co-Director, Wireless Sensor Network Lab Areas of Expertise: Anti-Spam, Wireless Sensor Network, Smart Grids, Social Networks Awards for Excellence in Research:
Winner of two prestigious research awards in Curtin University: (1) Overall Highest Research Performance Index (RPI) Points (2) Highest RPI points for Publications. More details here. My three main areas of research include Information Systems (information quality, social networks, user contribution management), Wireless Sensor Networks (smart grids, energy management, smart home automation, cyber physical systems, traffic congestion management), Information Security (anti spam, digital watermarking, steganography). Under the umbrella of information security I head the Anti-Spam Research Lab, which undertakes cutting edge research in the areas of web spam, Botnet detection, impacts of spam on the economy, cost of spam, and related security technologies like digital watermarking, steganography, Digital Rights Management & RFID security. My publication list can be found here. I am the general chair of CUBE 2012 & CEAS 2011 conferences.
I am also the co-director of the Wireless Sensor Networks Research Lab which undertakes research in the areas of wireless hardware development, energy efficient communication protocol development, advanced cross layer protocol design etc. I have a strong background in Information Security & Software Engineering. I completed my PhD in Information Security via Digital Watermarking and holds the record of being the youngest PhD graduate in Curtin Business School. Given my strong research ability I was successful in winning Curtin Research Fellowship to research and develop the areas of Information Security & Wireless Sensor Networks. My research has recieved widespread media recognition, some examples can be found below
I have attracted more than AUD 450,000 in research funds to advance his research in the areas of Wireless Sensor Networks. In my latest funding I secured AUD 404,000 from ARC Linkage body to solve the problem of traffic congestion in Perth Metropolitan Areas using Wireless Sensor Networks. I understand and value multi-disciplinary teams and enjoys collaborating with International experts like Prof Bill Smyth (Emeritus Professor, Algorithms Research Group, Department of Computing & Software, McMaster University, Canada). I also work closely with DEBI Institute’s leading researchers including Prof. Elizabeth Chang (Director of DEBI Institute), Prof. Tharam Dillon (Head of R&D, DEBII). I have supervised to completion 3 PhD students in 2011. Congrats to Dr. Atif Sharif, Dr. Kevin Chai, Dr. Pedram Hayati. Dr. Atif Sharif also recieved chancellor's commendation award for his PhD. I am currently supervising 5 full time PhD candidates as a main supervisor. If you would like to join as a PhD scholar email me at
